During the month of December Campus Community School students learned the story of holiday traditions from around the world.
The first part of the study was finding common elements between all five. Students learned that using candles, family meals, cultural stories, as well as gift-giving, are all four of the common elements.
Students studied how traditions are reflected in art work, and looked at how light in many cultures is an inspiration to stories, holidays, and music. The students were asked to design or create a light source helping to celebrate or focus on one of the stories or events.
Mrs. Boland’s Art Club and Mrs. Schafferman’s fifth grade class worked together to create large hallway murals displays of the five world cultural holiday traditions.
